area to the harvest of shellfish. Will that affect the relay of quahogs from the
area? Greg Sawyer: The area was opened for harvest on August 6. Some
towns relay quahogs into areas that are seasonally closed to shellfishing.
Holmes: There is an increased risk of poaching from concentrated relays of
contaminated quahogs because they can be dug up quickly. Mendes: It is a
state closure so the Environmental Police can help with enforcement. Guerierre:
What are the risks? Sawyer: In 26 years, there have been no reports of illness.
About 17 towns relay contaminated quahogs. Mendes: We want to try this on a
trial basis. Sawyer: Commercial diggers will also watch the relay area. York:
How much loss to poaching is acceptable? Mendes: No loss is acceptable. The
topic will be on the agenda for more discussion at the next meeting.

Waquoit Bay Town Line: No new information.

New Business – Agenda items for future meetings: None

08:50 PM.
