This <br /> designation also includes lands that are likely to remain open space for other reasons (e.g., cemeteries and <br /> municipal golf courses). <br /> Source: MassGIS <br /> The total open space in Mashpee is 5,356-33 acres, of which 4,621.72 acres (86.29%) is protected. <br /> 4,469.2o acres(83-44%) is considered protected "in perpetuity,"and 152.52 acres (2.85%) is considered <br /> to have a "limited" level of protection (MassGIS, 2021). Several enterprises hold legal interests in land <br /> including the Town of Mashpee,the state's conservation agencies (thereby covered by Article 97 of the <br /> Amendments to the Massachusetts Constitution), and nonprofit land trusts. Conservation and <br /> Recreation areas protected under Article 97 of the Massachusetts Constitution include 3,653-74 acres <br /> (68.21%)of the Town's open space(MassGIS, 2021).
