Mary Scanlan made a
motion that the 4/25/2013 minutes be approved as amended. Janice Walford seconded the motion.
The motion was unanimously passed.

NEW BUSINESS
 Development of Short & Long Term Goals for the Human Services Committee
Ruth Elias stated that she would like to have an open discussion on the development of short and
long term goals for the committee, and suggested setting up small subcommittees to work on these
goals once they are established. Ms. Elias mentioned the following short term needs:

- Community Outreach
- Budget review to include an evaluation/revision of contracts currently on the books
- Volunteer Assistance to the Human Services Director
- Increase in the use of the Human Services office building (long-term goal, perhaps?)

 Observations on Collaborative Research Presentation to the Board of Selectmen
Ruth Elias stated that due to the immense amount of statistical data presented, the important short
and long term recommendations were lost in the details. It was decided that this topic should better
be discussed when Selectman John Cahalane is present at a future Human Services Committee
meeting.

Janice Walford recommended that Gail Wilson’s monthly report should be distributed to every
member of the Board of Selectmen, so that they are informed of the extent of her responsibilities.
Mary Scanlan voiced concern about the need to educate the public about people living in poverty in
Mashpee, and the problems with which Gail Wilson is confronted on a regular basis.
Janice Walford made a motion that Gail Wilson’s monthly report be forwarded to the Board of
Selectmen, and Joyce Mason. Elinor Glener seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously
approved.
1
