MINUTES April 29, 1993 4 BOARD OF HEALTH
Mr. Sherman stated, "The purpose of meeting tonight is
in a preliminary sense for discussion with a limited resource
area. "The wetland has been flagged and we have a request
for determination of applicability tonight for the purpose of
discussing the wetland delineation. " "In my opinion, the
Commission will not be able to take a position tonight as the
flagging has not stood up to recent storms. " "There is a
considerable amount of coastal bank delineation which at some
point much be done. " "There are no proposals tonight in
terms of actual construction. "
y Mr. Greelish relayed, "In reviewing subdivision plans we
look at the technical feasibility and don't always take into
consideration, at that point in the process, whether in fact
all the lots are buildable, or whether all distance require-
ments have been met. " . "After a subsequent review of the
plans this Board acknowledges there clearly will be problems
siting septic systems. " "The overall calculation for septage
indicates a treatment plant,may be necessitated. "
Mr. Sherman commented, "We concur this is an environmen-
tally sensitive area. "
Mr. York stated, "Great Flat Pond is -our best potential
oyster pond because of the reduced salinity. " "We are con-
cerned with the potential coliform that may result in closing
of the oyster beds. "
Mr. Greelish requested Mr. Grotske provide an overview
of plans for a hydrogeological study in the area and any kind
of assessment.
Mr. Grotske responded, "We did retain a company to study
the nitrogen impact. " "A preliminary study was completed and
should be ready in 30 days. "
Mr. Greelish questioned Mr. Grotske as to whether, given
the environmental sensitivity of the area, their corporation
would consider installing a treatment plant instead of avoid-
ing installation of the plant.
Mr. Grotske responded, "We are more amenable to reducing
the number of lots or researching alternative septic systems
which reduce nitrogen. "
Mr. Greelish questioned Mr. Grotske as to whether the
test wells are in place and have been sampled.
Mr. Grotske responded, "Test wells are still in the
planning phase.
