Request for wholesale shellfish permit - Mr. John Baker was in attendance for <br /> discussion. <br /> Mr. Baker relayed, "I shellfish out of Mashpee." "Mr. Mendes and I would like to <br /> operate a wholesale shellfish business at our place of business." <br /> Mr. Evans relayed, "Mr. Mendel is going to purchase shellfish from individual <br /> shellfishermen and resell them to wholesale and retail businesses." "He has contacted the <br /> Division of Marine Fisheries who have control over this." "I spoke with Mr. William <br /> Hickson, the inspector at the Division of Marine Fisheries today." "They are not required <br /> to have a local Board of Health license." "Ater reviewing the facility I would <br /> recommend the Board approve the proposed business." "I do not perceive this type of <br /> business as a hazard as long as he keeps the shellfish properly stored." "We received the <br /> water sample back today which was satisfactory." "The plan for refrigeration is almost <br /> completed." "I would recommend the Board approve the operation limited to shellfish <br /> alone." "Should he wish to expand to fin fish then I would recommend he return to the <br /> Board." <br /> Mr. Bail questioned Mr. Baker as to whether he will be purchasing shellfish from <br /> commercial shellfishermen only. <br /> Mr. Baker responded, "Yes, with a State tag." <br /> Mr. Doherty recommend Mr. Mendes have a water quality analysis performed <br /> quarterly and have a leaching facility evaluation for capacity and general condition of the <br /> system. <br /> Board members agreed. <br /> Mr. Mendes agreed to submit water quality analysis on a quarterly basis and to <br /> have the leaching facility evaluated for capacity and its general condition. <br /> Mr. Doherty motioned to direct the agent to forward a letter to the Division of <br /> Marine Fisheries stating this Board's approval for the proposed business, Mr. Cram <br /> seconded, all agreed. <br />
