Mashpee Historic District Commission
Minutes of Meeting
December 16, 2020
Mashpee Town Hall
Virtual/Remote Meeting—Call-In (646)558-8656
Present: Chairman Earl Mills,Sr., Dennis Balzarini, Brian Hyde and Maureen Paxton
Also: Evan Lehrer,Town Planner
CALL TO ORDER
The Town of Mashpee Historic District Commission meeting was called to order by Chairman Mills at
8:30 AM on December 16, 2020. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES- February 13, 2020 Meeting
MOTION: Mr. Hyde made a motion to accept the minutes as printed. Mr. Balzarini seconded the
motion. All voted unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
Chairman Mills reported that the work on 278 Main Street owned by Shane Gibbons is still ongoing.
Mr. Lehrer shared correspondence with the Commission that was received from the homeowner. The
original plan was submitted with eight windows on the front of the building. The scope of the project
needed to be modified and include only three windows due to expense. Mr. Lehrer stated that the
homeowner brought this to the attention of the HDC and was looking for a general consensus that the
project could move forward with the reduced amount of windows. Chairman Mills did not feel a new
vote was necessary. There was a consensus among the Commission members to allow the reduction
with no further action. Mr. Lehrer indicated that he would notify the applicant.
PUBLIC HEARING
Applicant: New Day Ministries
Location: 2B Center St.
Request: Certificate of Appropriateness
Description: The applicant is seeking endorsement of Certificate of Appropriateness for the
design and installation of a new sign on a commercial building.
The Public Hearing Notice was read into the record by Chairman Mills. Kenyetta Jeffries from New Day
Ministries was present to discuss the location of the proposed sign. She indicated that they are located
in the middle of the building and would be looking to mimic dimensions of the existing sign that faces the
street. Materials were submitted with specifications for the new sign. Mr. Lehrer pointed out that this
proposed sign would be consistent in materials and construction with two that were previously approved
for North Star Montessori School and The Tone Club.
MOTION: Mr. Hyde made a motion to approve this Certificate of Appropriateness. Mr.Balzarini seconded
the motion. All voted unanimously.
Mr. Lehrer pointed out that before the sign is installed, Ms.Jeffries will need to apply for a permit to have
the sign installed.
