NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Discussion on transitioning Mashpee Wakeby Lake Management Committee to Mashpee <br />Fresh Water Committee <br />o Attendance: Paul Bibo, chair; Don MacDonald, Vice Chair; Barbara Nichols, <br />Member <br />o Ashley Fisher, the Water Quality Coordinator, and Grants Administrator <br />presented a proposal for the establishment of a new Mashpee Freshwaters <br />Committee. The key points of the proposal include: <br /> The committee aims to enhance the management and protection of <br />freshwater bodies in the area. <br /> It will include representatives from various pond groups to ensure <br />comprehensive oversight and advocacy for all freshwater resources. <br /> The primary goals are to improve water quality, conduct diagnostic <br />assessments, and seek funding for conservation efforts related to <br />freshwater ecosystems. <br /> The committee encourages collaboration among different pond groups and <br />stakeholders to address freshwater management issues holistically. <br /> It will incorporate scientific expertise and community representatives to <br />enhance decision-making and advocacy for the health of freshwater <br />bodies. <br /> A structured approach will be provided to monitor and manage water <br />quality, focusing on both major and smaller ponds within the town. <br /> It is suggested to include an expert in limnology or pond/lake management <br />on the board. <br />o Mashpee Wakeby Lake Management Committee <br /> Mr. Bibo presented the history and current activities of the Mashpee <br />Wakeby Lake Management Committee <br /> Committee formed in 1996 to address water level and erosion concerns <br /> Current activities include lake level monitoring, newsletter publication, <br />and addressing safety issues <br />o Discussion on Fresh Waters Committee Formation <br /> Debate on the scope and representation of the proposed Fresh Waters <br />Committee <br /> Concerns raised about the capability of the existing committee to handle <br />expanded responsibilities <br /> Discussion on budget, expert involvement, and tribal representation <br />o Motion <br /> Ms. Malone motioned to establish a Mashpee Fresh Waters Committee <br />and support Ms. Fisher with a letter of recommendation. <br /> Mr. Colombo seconded the motion. <br /> Roll Call: 4 yay: 0 nay motion passed unanimously <br /> <br /> Discussion on inviting Sue Dangel from Save Mashpee Wakeby Pond Alliance to a <br />future meeting: Invite to the next meeting <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br /> <br />
