o The program engages high school students in water quality sampling and <br />environmental monitoring. <br />o Students receive certificates and credits for their participation, which helps foster <br />interest in STEM fields. <br />o The initiative promotes a connection between local ecosystems and broader <br />marine conservation efforts. <br />o There is potential to replicate a similar program in Mashpee, associated with <br />Washburn Island. <br />o The program encourages local students to participate in water quality monitoring <br />and environmental stewardship through hands-on learning experiences. <br />o Collaboration with existing educational institutions and organizations will help <br />develop a structured program that provides certifications and practical skills. <br />o NOAA funding and resources will be utilized to support the development and <br />implementation of the program, fostering community involvement in conservation <br />efforts. <br />o The tribe is looking to establish an American Indian Science and Engineering <br />Society (AISES) program. <br />o This initiative aims to promote STEM education among Native American students <br />by providing mentorship and resources to spark interest in science and <br />engineering careers. <br />o Collaboration with regional professionals will enhance educational opportunities <br />and encourage community engagement in environmental stewardship. <br /> Public Comment <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />5:46 Ms. Malone motioned to adjourn the meeting.
