10 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> September 9, 2002 <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Approval of Proclamation: <br /> Motion made by Selectman Green to place the above topic on the <br /> Selectmen's agenda. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Marsters. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Green to formally issue a proclamation to <br /> John Johansen for his dedicated service to the Conservation <br /> Commission. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Marsters. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> Members of the Conservation Commission will be invited to attend the <br /> upcoming ceremony. <br /> Land Acquisition—Bufflehead Bay,Nominee Trust Proprty: <br /> The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, acting through its Department of <br /> Environmental Management(DEM) has under consideration, the <br /> acquisition of approximately 35 acres of land located in Mashpee. The <br /> property is located within the acquisition boundaries of the US Fish and <br /> Wildlife Service's Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge and the Waquoit <br /> Bay NERR. <br /> If acquired by the state,the property will be used for open space and <br /> passive recreation. The area is referred to as Bufflehead Bay Nominee <br /> Trust, a/k/a Barrows Property, Great Oak Road, Mashpee. <br /> Regulations require that an agency proposal to acquire property be made <br /> public in local forum. The Board of Selectmen is required to announce <br /> the Commonwealth's consideration of this acquisition in public session. <br /> In addition, the Selectmen were requested to shorten the 120 day notice <br /> period so that the Commonwealth, should it decide to proceed,may <br /> complete the transition as soon as possible. <br /> • <br />
