2
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
November 18, 2002
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Department of Public Works—Grading Repairs to Pine Road:
Greg Taylor, Director of Public Works was present to recommend the
Selectmen approve repairs to Pine Road, a town approved subdivision.
Residents of Pine Road have requested assistance of the DPW to conduct
grading. Costs associated to the road repair would be assumed by the Pine
Road residents for a total sum of$235.00.
Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to approve repairs to Fine Road
as referenced with residents to assume all road repair expenses.
Motion seconded by Selectman Green.
VOTE: Unanimous. 3-0.
DEP Regulations/Policies Concerning Solid Waste:
Gregory Taylor brought to the Board's attention, the issue of waste bans
on the disposal of certain materials in the waste stream. These banned
materials include paper products such as corrugated cardboard and office
paper, metal containers, glass containers and narrow-necked containers
such as milk, soda and detergent bottles.
A ban on construction and demolition materials is scheduled to take effect
on January 1, 2004. The zero tolerance policy would place an undue
burden on communities. It would also require the town to enforce a
recycling bylaw that would mandate recycling by all residents and
businesses.
Catherine Laurent, Assistant Director detailed this matter in a
memorandum addressed to the Selectmen dated October 25, 2002.
Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to seek legislators assistance in
preventing the imposition of these requirements and join other Cape
communities in request of tolerance as previously allowed for loads to
avoid additional.costs associated to the disposal of waste materials.
Motion seconded by Selectman Green.
VOTE: Unanimous. 3-0.
