8 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> December 2, 2002 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Presentation by Brain Center: <br /> Richard Grace of The Brain Center was present with his constituents to <br /> discuss an alternative use for the eleven acre parcel under study for <br /> technology based industry with the Board of Selectmen and interested <br /> public. <br /> An eighty-nine unit public lodging facility is proposed envisioned as a <br /> "thinking and learning" center entitled Inn First Place. Schematics of the <br /> 2.5 story building including a basement were presented to the Selectmen <br /> for review. <br /> The non-profit organization in conjunction with The Brain Center and <br /> twelve pharmaceutical companies would generate income for generic bio <br /> research and other medical research activities. <br /> An in-depth discussion followed with respect to the need for a 6.5 acre site <br /> for this type of facility and the favorable opportunities that it would <br /> present to the Town of Mashpee. <br /> The Selectmen are expected to review a grant funded report on the most <br /> suitable usage for the technology park at the next scheduled meeting. The <br /> matter was taken under advisement at this time. <br /> Cape Cod Commission—Affordable Housing <br /> Paul Ruchinskas, Affordable Housing Specialist of the Cape Cod <br /> Commission was present to discuss the use of Barnstable Housing <br /> Affordable Housing Funds available as of January 2, 2003. <br /> As noted; <br /> Rental Housing Development Subsidies $200,000 <br /> Purchase Pool Program $200,000 <br /> Technical Assistance to Towns $ 50,000 <br /> Monitory the Resale of Affordable Ownership Housing $50,000 <br /> Applications and guidelines for the $500,000 for affordable housing <br /> recently passed by the County's Assembly of Delegates are available at <br /> the Cape Cod Commission office. <br />
