Finance Committee
October 4, 1988
Page 4.
Account . These monies are required for two reasons , there was an
accounting error in the salary calculations and there is also an
increase in salary for the agent and the assistant agent .
Article 18 was submitted by the Town Clerk . Murphy explained
that the Town Clerk is seeking the difference between a 20 hr . /week -
position and a 35 hr . /week position . Murphy noted that 35 hrs . is
a full time position and will require benefits . He noted that Jane
seemed uncertain about this position and could possibly defer .
There are two Articles on the Warrant submitted by the Council
on Aging . The Selectmen established an ad hoc (fommit'tee the
Senior Center Building Committee . They to date have made no
recommendations . There is disagreement about the Articles the
Council has submitted , some want a first class addition to the
present center , others want a make shift addition and others want
a new center altogether but not on the present site location .
The Finance Committee was in agreement that these Articles should be deferred.
Murphy addressed Article 12 which seeks to transfer and appropriate from
the Revenue Available for Appropriation Account $11,996.03 to pay bills of
the prior fiscal year. Murphy explained that these bills had not arrived in
time for payment before the close of the fiscal year.
The Finance Committee discussed Article 35 which is a zoning Article.
The Shellfish Board and the Conservation Commission are not happy with how
the Board of Appeals is accepting their input on hearings for docks and piers.
The proposed Article would take permit granting authority for docks and piers
away from the Board of Appeals and give to the Planning Board because they feel
they will hear the arguments. Murphy noted that it was his feeling that this
Article should be moved to a Special Town Meeting on Zoning.
Article 36 seeks town approval to accept as a public road, Old Colony Drive
and town approval to appropriate and transfer from the Revenue Available for
Appropriation Account $5,850 and to assess betterments to the owners of land
abutting the ways.
The final matter addressed by the Finance Committee was a proposed new
member of the Finance Committee. Member Dunivan suggested Anthony Gallo as
a new Committee member. Mr: Gallo resides at Fells Pond Circle in Mashpee
has had a business and an education background and Carole feels that he will be-a
welcome addition to the Finance Committee. Murphy will contact Mr. Gallo.
The meeting adjourned at 10:55 p.m. The next scheduled meeting will.
be October 11, 1988.
ail McNabb
Board Secretary
