Nov.19, 2001
On your agenda this evening is an item pertaining to the transfer station,
which includes the increase in the dump fee for a sticker, along with an
increase in property values in town, this will probably mean a4increase in
taxes.
The question that has to be asked and answered, is what
services the Mashpee taxpayers are receiving for their taxes? Somehow the
answer I come up with is a fat O. I live in a district which pays the highest
taxes Being private I pay association dues which partly go to the paving of
our roads.
A recent newspaper article quoted a department head stating
that Mashpee `s dump sticker is far less than the surrounding towns of
Falmouth, Bourne and Sandwhich, but these towns have curbside rubbish
service, their streets get swept by the DRW and they have updated their
form of government. I repeat and do you see that Mashpee taxpayers get O
for their taxes.
This town is also operating on outdated bi-laws and
government. David at one point during your campaign you stated that the bi-
laws should be updated and a committee to accomplish this should be
formed. Is this being done?
Town services should be provided to all residents and sections
of town including the private areas. Town government should be updated for
this century. Don't you feel the selectmen should lead us in that direction?
