i 2 Board of Selectmen Minutes } December 3, 2001 t APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: Public Hearing—Tax Classification: Selectman Cahalane and Selectman Marsters stepped down for the above referenced hearing. Selectman Leveille presided. Selectman Leveille opened the Public Hearing to hear public comment on the allocation of the tax levy by classification of property, adoption of a residential exemption, adoption of an open space discount, and adoption of a small business exemption. The purpose of the hearing is to solicit public comment on whether each classification of property should be taxed at the same rate or if the tax rate will be dependent on a property's classification. Joyce Mason, Acting Town Administrator read aloud the Public Hearing notice as published. Water District Commissioners Diane Rommelmeyer, Russell Babcock and Perry Ellis were present in joint convention to determine the manner in which the Town of Mashpee is taxed. David Bailey, Director of Assessing discussed the four choice options. The four choices are as follows, Split Tax Rate Small Business Exemption Open Space Discount Residential Exemption The residential factor selected would determine the percentages of the tax burden to be borne by each class of property for fiscal year 2002. Mr. Bailey recommended the Town maintain a single tax rate. Being no comment,the Board motioned to close the Public Hearing. Motion made by Selectman Taylor to close the Public Hearing. Motion seconded by Selectman Green. VOTE: Unanimous. 3-0. Selectman Cahalane, Selectman Marsters absent.
