i <br /> 2 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> } December 3, 2001 <br /> t <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Public Hearing—Tax Classification: <br /> Selectman Cahalane and Selectman Marsters stepped down for the above <br /> referenced hearing. Selectman Leveille presided. <br /> Selectman Leveille opened the Public Hearing to hear public comment <br /> on the allocation of the tax levy by classification of property, adoption of <br /> a residential exemption, adoption of an open space discount, and adoption <br /> of a small business exemption. <br /> The purpose of the hearing is to solicit public comment on whether each <br /> classification of property should be taxed at the same rate or if the tax rate <br /> will be dependent on a property's classification. <br /> Joyce Mason, Acting Town Administrator read aloud the Public Hearing <br /> notice as published. Water District Commissioners Diane Rommelmeyer, <br /> Russell Babcock and Perry Ellis were present in joint convention to <br /> determine the manner in which the Town of Mashpee is taxed. <br /> David Bailey, Director of Assessing discussed the four choice options. <br /> The four choices are as follows, <br /> Split Tax Rate <br /> Small Business Exemption <br /> Open Space Discount <br /> Residential Exemption <br /> The residential factor selected would determine the percentages of the tax <br /> burden to be borne by each class of property for fiscal year 2002. Mr. <br /> Bailey recommended the Town maintain a single tax rate. <br /> Being no comment,the Board motioned to close the Public Hearing. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Taylor to close the Public Hearing. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Green. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 3-0. <br /> Selectman Cahalane, Selectman Marsters absent. <br />
