Finance Committee Minutes
June 27 , 1989
Page 3 .
presently encapsulated . The Selectmen want to have the asbestos
removed at a cost of $12 , 750 .
Murphy noted that there were two oversights that need to be
corrected . Joe noted that he didn ' t put in the correct amount for
salary for the part—time leisure services clerk . There is a need
for an additional $570. Also , there was an oversight in Chief
Ridgeway ' s salary. He was not given the step that he is entitled
to and his salary account is $2 , 067 short . The Finance Committee
felt that these could best be handled as Requests for Transfer
from the Reserve Account on July 1 , 1989 .
Murphy also noted the need to give some money to the Assessor ' s
Wage Account . This could possibly be $5 , 000 — $6 , 000 for clerical
support . The money was previously taken from their wage account ,
in the hope that they would get a position , this however failed
and they are left without needed clerical help . Chairman Dolan
suggested that the Finance Committee encumber the money for this
in the event an article fails at the Special . This same
recommendation was suggested to help June Daly the Animal Control
Officer . June ' s article for additional help was inadvertently
omitted from the Annual Town Meeting Warrant . She is seeking
$2 , 250 for additional help on weekends . Ed noted that it is
necessary on both of these issues to have a firm dollar figure .
Members questioned Murphy regarding the performance bond for
DiMaggio . Murphy noted that it appears that he has what is called
an "offshore bond" from the Bahamas . The company holding the bond
only has 1 .8 million in assets . There are several options to be
considered and the Selectmen are looking into this matter .
Murphy informed the Finance Committee that July 14 would be
his last day as- Executive Secretary for the town of Mashpee .
Beginning July loth , Jeffrey Nutting will be working two days
a week as an interim Executive Secretary . This will cost the
town $900 for the two days . Joe stated that he thought it would
be late October or November before the town has a new Executive
Secretary .
Prior to this Committee meeting there were Requests for
Transfer from the Reserve Fund that needed to be considered by the
Finance Committee . Chairman Dolan called Committee members and
asked them to cast their votes . The following Requests were
approved by a telephone vote of Finance Committee members .
June 8th , 1989
Request for $3 , 800 to be transferred to Town Hall Expense . These
funds were requested to remove and dispose of the 5 , 000 gallon oil
tank located at the Samuel G. Davis School . The Town was in
violation of Massachusetts law and had been cited by the Fire
Department . In order to resolve the situation the tank had to
be removed and disposed . This was an unforseen expenditure .
This Request received the unanimous vote of approval of all members .
