Tony stated that it was <br /> his belief the candidate should pay his own expenses. Carl. Heller motioned that <br /> this request be denied and John Ferriday seconded . All Finance Committee members <br /> were in agreement. <br /> Dolan informed members that on December llth at 5:30 there would be a meeting <br /> to discuss school growth and Finance Committee members had been invited to attend. <br /> Tony informed the members that the state has advised the School Committee that <br /> it would be wise to get in a request for the 56% reimbursement for school <br /> construction because after this year there may not he any building assistance. <br /> At 7:30 Finance Committee members joined the Selectmen's meeting already <br /> in progress. Selectmen Gottlieb, Carter, Hanson, Lawrence and Jeff Nutting <br /> the Interim Executive Secretary were present. The Chairman of the Selectmen, <br /> Edward Gottlieb stated that a joint meeting. had been in i.tiated to f.il.l the <br /> vacancy on the Finance Committee. Gottlieb informed members that on December lst, <br /> Mr. Jones had withdrawn his application. Selectman Hanson motioned that Vern <br /> Polka be approved as the new Finance Committee member to fill the vacancy created <br /> by Bill Towner's resignation. Selectmen approved this motion with one opposing <br /> vote by Edward Gottlieb. Finance Committee members approved this motion with <br /> one opposing vote by Carl Heller. The motion carried and Vern will be. notified <br /> by Chairman Dolan. <br /> Jeff Nutting also noted that he would like to see all zoning articles held <br /> and not on the warrant for the annual town meeting in the Spring. The <br /> Selectmen agreed that it would be best to discuss this at the next Selectmen's <br /> meeting after the Town Planner had been consulted . <br /> Jeff discussed the time frame for departments submitting their budgets <br /> and the date that recommendations were due from the Finance Committee. <br /> As the schedule now stands Final Revenue Estimates and Consolidated Budgets <br /> will be submitted to the Selectmen and the Finance Committee on January 19th. <br /> Selectman Lawrence stated that the Finance Committee should meet with the <br /> Selectmen prior to any recommendations being made, this will be scheduled for <br /> the first part of January. Jeff noted that a 10% cut in department budgets <br /> will not balance the budget and it would be good to meet and establish <br /> a policy direction prior to January 19th. <br /> The Selectmen questioned the Finance Committee as to whether or not their <br /> Request for Transfer for Out-of--State Travel for $1,000 had been approved. <br /> Chairman Dolan informed them that it had been denied. Jeff noted that the <br /> balance of $768.93 currently in the account had been earmarked for other <br /> purposes and the town needed the money to pay the travel costs for two <br /> Executive Secretary candidates, one from Minneapolis and the other from <br /> Annapolis. Ed noted that this information had not been included in the <br /> request. Selectman Hanson expressed his anger and dismay concerning the <br /> denial of the request and left the meeting in a tirade. 13d" noted that in <br /> view of the new information regarding the request he would return to the <br /> Finance Committee and ask members to discuss a reconsideration. <br /> The finance Committee members returned to the conference room and to <br /> the Finance Committee meeting. John Ferriday noted that he has been unable to <br /> get revenue estimates from the Town Accountant and he has tried several times <br /> to do this.
