Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> March 1, 2000 <br /> Present: Selectman Marsters, Selectman Leveille, Selectman Taylor, <br /> Selectman Cahalane, Selectman Blythe <br /> Town Administrator Robert Whritenour <br /> Assistant Town Administrator Joyce Mason <br /> Meeting Called to Order by Chairman Marsters at 6:05 p.m. <br /> Town Hall, Conference Room #1. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Finance Committee/School Committee Budget Review: <br /> The Board of Selectmen met in joint convention with the <br /> Finance Committee and School Committee for the purpose <br /> of reviewing the budget of fiscal year 2001. <br /> The School Committee requested a budget of$14,350,000 to support <br /> Mashpee Public Schools. A $1.55 million dollar increase is recommended <br /> over the current $12.8 million dollar budget. <br /> To make adjustments in the framework of the school system and <br /> curriculum, the requested budget increase will consider a reorganization <br /> plan, contractual obligations, essential new positions, added transportation <br /> expenses, and mandated special education needs. <br /> Mr. Whritenour, Town Administrator recommended a budget of <br /> $13,800,000 for fiscal year 2001. <br /> Finance Committee member,Dean Arden discussed the school budget <br /> request which reflects an increase of more than 12% of the FY2000 budget <br /> of$12.8 million. <br /> It was noted that the major portion of the budget increase will support <br /> contractual obligations, new positions and special education needs. <br /> The Selectmen agreed to consider a warrant article for the purpose of <br /> creating a reserve account for unanticipated special education costs. <br /> The Finance Committee discussed their memorandum relative to the <br /> school budget and related recommendations to reduce the fiscal year 2001 <br /> budget. The School Committee addressed their comments. <br />
