Workman Compensation Account :
• ao0
There is an anticipated deficit estimated at as much as $44-r6ao—
in this account. . This was completely unexpected and could not be
anticipated. ' The insurance rates increased dramatically. The rate
increase seems unjustified and the Executive Secretary has filed for
an audit.
RECOMMENDATION: There is likely to be some increase (although
hopefully not $40, 000) in this cost which will also need to be 'added
to next fiscal year' s budget.
Street Lighting Account :
There is an anticipated deficit estimated at $3,000 in this
account. The principal reason is the increased cost for
electricity.
RECOMMENDATION : It would be more costly to "disconnect" lighting
fixtures . The additional funds ($3 , 000) should also be added to
next fiscal year' s budget
Falmouth Hiah School Tuition Account :
There has been much discussion regarding this account . The deficit
will probably be about $155,000. The Finance Committee and the
Board of Selectmen have a tentative agreement in principle
concerning a portion of this amount coming, from "free cash" .
RECOMMENDATION: The following considerations should be taken into
account when estimating the amount for Falmouth tuition.
(1) The number of Mashpee students currently in grades 9-10 and 11
at Falmouth High School .
(2) The current number of eighth grade students expected to attend
Falmouth High School . Although students have the right to
change their minds , a special effort should be made by
school personnel to guide students considering attending Cape
Cod Tech toward a firm decision.
(3) The number of students currently attending Cape Cod Tech who
are likely to attend Falmouth High the following year. This
will require interfacing with Cape Cod Tech.
(4) The number of students currently attending Falmouth High who
are likely to attend Cape Cod tech the following year. This
will require interfacing with Falmouth High.
(5) The average number of high school age students for the past
three years who have moved into Mashpee and attended Falmouth
High without having attended eighth grade in Mashpee.
(6) Anticipated drop-outs, students planning to move and students
not expected to pass should also be considered .
(7) The anticipated percentage increase in the tuition as obtained
from the Superintendent of Schools in Falmouth .
Mashpee Finance Committee - January, 1991
3
