BOX 1108 <br /> MASNPEI;, MA 02549 <br /> FINANCE COMMITSE MINUTES <br /> February S, 1991 <br /> Town Hall <br /> Present : John Ferriday , Tony Gallo , Deirdre Greelish , Carl Heller , <br /> and Jim Vaccaro <br /> The Finance Committee meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Members <br /> reviewed and amended the minutes of the January 22nd meeting. Tony Gallo <br /> motioned that the amended minutes be approved, this was seconded by Carl and <br /> there was unanimous approval. <br /> The Committee addressed the Popponesset Island Bridge Repair. The <br /> residents of Popponesset Island have deposited a check for $20,000 and this <br /> will be used to pay the repair bill for the bridge. Carl motioned that the <br /> Finance Committee rescind their action of ilovember 20th, 1990 and return the <br /> $20,000 appropriated in that action to the Reserve Fund. This motion was <br /> seconded by John Ferriday and there was unanimous support. <br /> Carl Heller addressed the Committee regarding the school budget. He noted <br /> that he was comfortable .with the 7-point program as proposed by the Finance <br /> Committee. Jim reiterated his request for a worksheet illustrating these seven <br /> points. In response to 'the question about Supervisors in the school system, <br /> Carl stated that these positions are full-.time administrative positions and do <br /> no involve teaching. fie informed the Committee that the computer and general <br /> supplies are for replacements and do not involve new additions of equipment. <br /> Carl stated that the SPED budget has the loss/gain calculated into it. About <br /> 15% of the student population is in the SPED program. Carl stressed that the <br /> SPED program will be further impacted by the abolishment of the pre-K program <br /> and the foster children in the town. Lincoln has prepared the two requested <br /> impact statements and Carl is currently working on calculating the number of <br /> teachers who will be retiring and the anticipated number of students for <br /> the next school year. <br /> Carl informed the Committee that he had attended the joint meeting of the <br /> Falmouth and 'Mashpee School Committees. Falmouth did not give a specific year <br /> as to when they would no longer be able to take Mashpee students however the <br /> maximum number of students from Mashpee they will take is 1700. It is <br />• anticipated that this will be reached in 1998. The general purpose of this <br /> joint meeting was to qualify the cost of the Falmouth tuition. Carl noted that <br /> he was encouraged in general by the meeting. <br />
