MA 02649 i FINANCE COMMITTEE MINUTES April 29, 1991 Town Hall Present: Carole Dunivan, John Ferriday, Tony Gallo, Deirdre Greelish, Carl Heller, Vern Polka and Jim Vaccaro The Finance Committee was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Approval of the minutes of April 9th will be considered at a later date to give the .members time to review them. Joel Zeger one of the proponents of Article #6 on the Annual Town Meeting Warrant regarding the Popponessett Island Bridge has indicated that they will seek a postponement of this Article on the floor. The Fire Chief had submitted a letter to the Finance Committee in support of this Article. Jim informed the Committee that earlier in the day he had met with Carl Heller, Maryanne Gibbs of the School Committee, Dr. DeMoura and Kevin Harrington to discuss the FY91 school surplus. The conclusion of this meeting included: 1. The entire school surplus be reverted to the General Fund. The figure is not certain but it is known to be at least $368,000. 2. The Superintendent also agreed that next year's school budget be reduced $100,000 for a total $4,950,000. This of course will have to be also recommended by the Mashpee School Committee, and is subject to their approval. Jim stated that he felt that the discussion with the Superintendent had been a frank one and that the Superintendent had indicated that he would like to work closely with the Finance Committee. Carl stated that the conclusions of the meeting were very positive and Kevin Harrington indicated that he felt it was a favorable outcome. Carole Dunivan motioned that the Finance Committee tentatively approve this agreement with the Superintendent pending the outcome of the School Committee vote. John Ferriday seconded and all members were in agreement.
