Page 2 BUDGET - school John Ferriday is the liaison to this department. Tony Gallo stepped down from discussion. Mr. Ferriday was very angry that Dr. DeMoura would not attend the Finance Committee's meeting tonight, as well as some of the other School Committee members. He indicated that he felt the school was angry that the Finance Committee asked pointed questions regarding their budget requests. He did not think it was fair that the school was perceiving that the Finance Committee was not in favor of their budget proposal or the addition. Mr. Ferriday stated to Dr. DeMoura that it is the school department's job to spend the money but it was our job to look at the bottom line and see where the bottom line came from. Ms. Greelish asked Mr. Ferriday whether he felt the salaries could absorb any cuts? Mr. Ferriday indicated that it was Dr. DeMoura's belief that if we cut any lower than 5.3 million he would need to layoff, and they would be the only department who had to. Mr. Ferriday felt that that would be his decision to lay people off rather than look at some other expenses should the budget drop below 5. 3 .million. Mr. Goggin asked about the special eduction driver. According to Mr. Ferriday, he is responsible for transporting a child, who moved into to this district to Brockton. Tony Gallo asked whether any member would be interested in writing the Artice of consolidating capital expenses under the control of the Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee with him. Deidre Greelish agreed to help him with the Article. :. Tony Gallo asked the liaisons to the Police Department, Fire Department and the Department of Public Works to get back to the members next week regarding their capital expenditures. The meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M. The Finance Committee will meet again on Wednesday, March 1.8, 1992. Mr. Gallo and Ms. Greelish will prepare the Article for discussion for Wednesday, March 18th.
