2
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
April 24, 2000
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Vanasse Hangen Brustlin—Route 130 Intersection:
Greg Taylor, the Director of Public Works was present with
representatives of Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. to discuss the
Route 130/Great Neck Road North intersection improvement project with
members of the Board of Selectmen.
Joseph Mangi, Senior Project Manager discussed several critical issues
associated with the subject intersection and requested input from the
Selectmen with regards to preliminary planning and design perspectives.
Planning and design issues include the maintenance of pedestrian
accessibility across Route 130, alternative means of egress from the Town
Hall parking lot to Route 130, control of access to the country store, bike
path accessibility during construction and as part of the final design, and
sidewalk construction.
The Selectmen agreed that the following site issues should be considered
in the design of the Route 130 intersection. The area is anticipated to be
deemed a historic district. The future Mashpee Art House will be located
in the subject area, and the existing burial grounds located adjacent to the
Town Hall facility should not be disturbed. It was also noted that the
northern egress from Town Hall is also a hazardous Iocation.
Vanasse Hangen Brustlin is expected to bring forth their recommendation
to the Board of Selectmen in June. The above referenced criteria will be
considered in the design process.
