1ASHPEE FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
MARCH 18, 1993
MEETING COMMENCED AT 7:15 PM
Members Present: Deirdre Greelish, Chairperson; Ed Baker; John
Ferriday and Denise Sullivan. Tony Gallo, Dan Goggin and Roger
Dunivan were unable to attend.
The taping of this meeting is for the transcription of the minutes
only. The tapes will be reused.
MINUTES
The Reserve Fund has $96,000 remaining as of March 18, 1993.
John Ferriday shared with the committee a letter he received from
Dr. Lincoln DeMoura regarding the utilization of grant receipts and
the regulations on Chapter one monies. It is noted for the record
that Mr. Ferriday never made any statement or should have given
anyone the impression that the Finance Committee wanted to spend
grant monies on anything other than the reasons they were intended.
He stated that he was inquiring about the grant money for the
Finance Committee's information only. Members agreed that the
drafts were to be signed and sent.
The committee then spoke about their procedure for department
budget review and how each liaison should communicate the
committee's recommendations to their departments. Members agreed
that after any decisions were made or tentatively made, the
department should be notified in writing or orally about the
decisions. Deirdre suggested drafting a form which would inform
the department of the committee's decision on expense and salary
recommendations and any comments the Finance Committee had. Each
liaison would be responsible for filling out this form and
circulating it to their departments. Members agreed that this was
a good suggestion. Mr. Ferriday stated that he would tell the
school department what the committee tentatively decided on. Mr.
Baker asked that James Vaccaro be invited to a meeting to explain
the Board of Selectmen's decision to level fund the school.
Members decided that at this time they would like to meet with the
Board of Selectmen to clear up any concerns they have regarding
vehicle maintenance, cleaning, outreach worker, lifeguards,
education budget, bidding fixed costs and the possible
consolidation of shellfish/harbormaster and animal control.
