5
Selectman Leveille: I'm sorry, I don't mean to interrupt. Have you folks at this point..
developed a list of goals and objectives to which you are hoping to
accomplish?
Glenn Marshall: The goal that we hope to accomplish we can't seem to get
accomplished. And that is okay because if federal recognition
comes in, it is not the Tribe that takes over, it is the Department of
Interior. But, if we go in with a negotiated settlement, not only for
land, it is the Department of Interior....Everybody here has been
told about the 1977-land suit that was then. This is today...What
is different, I will tell you what is different The difference is that
right now, there is a chance for everybody to have one community.
How would you like it if all of your lands were taken from you?
No,that is not what we are going to do. That is the scare tactic that
you think is going to happen.
Selectman Cahalane: Glean, I have one quick question. How did this go from
negotiations to what originally started as discussions?
Glenn Marshall: I'm going to tell you what happened. The Tribe had sent one, two
three, four letters, one that was supposedly what I've gotten so I
delivered it on the 31"and then Chuckie called me and, they
haven't gotten them, so I bring them both back, the one that was
corrected and I took them and gave them to Joyce Mason. And,
when we talked about discussions... it all started when Hale and
Dorr came aboard....it was the suggestion of the Board of
Selectmen that we sit down to negotiate the specifics with you.
Selectman Cahalane:' Then we just skipped over discussions with you.
Glenn Marshall: None of the answers, none of the letters, the only one that has been
answered is the one from the Chairman that suggested that we get a
facilitator. Other than that, none of our correspondence has been
answered.
Selectman Cahalan: I think everyone here has been looking for... to find a way.
Glenn Marshall: Well, I think it's the Tribe's position that they have been trying,
and they are waiting...
Selectman Leveille: ...we've spent months appealing to the Tribal Council...
Glenn Marshall: It's the same thing, I have heard about not having Mark at the table
and not having Hale and Dorr....
