9
Selectman Marsters: It's putting a lot of pressure on five guys that are doing this part-
time that still have to run a $32 million dollar business entity on
the side. I agree with Dave that we are in a no-win situation here
in terms, we are not going to look good no matter what we do, but
I am beyond trying to look good. Right now, I am going to do
what I think is right for the Town and I am also going to do what I
think is right for me personally, and take some pressure off my
own life because I don't feel that I am qualified to make that
decision and I couldn't make that decision and go back to the
people and say that I made the right decision because I am not the
expert here. We have experts in Washington. It's called federal
recognition, the federal program, the BIA. That's what they are
there to do. I don't know that any case, a case that is set where a
group of five part-time Selectmen have to work in such an
emotional manner. We would probably be the first ones out there
that would have to do that. And the reason why they won't do that
is a), its emotionally draining and b) it is time consuming and c)
we don't have the expertise and the facility to do so. And we have
been trying to get this going for about a year now, and I must
admit the survey has gotten my back up a little bit too. I felt like I
was being backed into a corner there and I would not want to be
pressured through public sentiment and ... we haven't gotten
through any discussions.
I agree with David and I think that the BIA course of action would
be one that I would recommend and that way we could keep the
dialogue possibly open,I don't know, but we have to get back to
running this town, and we have not been doing too much of that
during the last couple of weeks.
Applause.
George Benway: Is that a motion Mr. Selectman?
Selectman Marsters: No.
