11
Selectman Green: process, which is not a problem, I think I can speak for most of the
Tribal members, going through the process is, every twenty-five
years, there is nothing the process can do to us. We are not
worried about not being even federally recognized. It's not a big
deal. The issue was if federal recognition was to happen that the
community have a say in what happens here. When it goes to the
BIA, we will be discussing with the federal government, what we
are going to do. And it won't be the Tribe, and there is no suit.
This keeps coming up. There is no suit. There is no suit now at
all. If the federal recognition process does get voted, that is go ing
to come in, they are going to rule it, they are going to play down to
it, there's always a way out...there's a way... there's a way to
bring people together. That was my reason for going forward. I
don't see that that situation exists. I am sorry. I really feel bad
that we couldn't get it done, but that is where it is now.
Selectman Taylor: Well, its funny how things come home because I think all of these
members of this Board thought we were on the right track. We
were going to try to do the things that had not been accomplished
before. And when I first sat down with Glenn and spoke to him
about certain issues, I left my mind open and there were people in
this room that tried to speak to me and I didn't return calls because
I felt like it was, I had to do it with an open mind. I had to hear for
myself what was going on and research it myself. But, I will tell
you, in this past, month, two months, the pressure has been so
much on me and consequently on my family that I can't continue
at this pace. This is a job that is way too big for us as a part-time
board. I feel real bad as Chuck said. I think both of us have the
same intent on trying to bring the community together. And, I
think at this time, the climate isn't there, the commitment or the
time for the Board to put into it isn't there. I would like to wish
Glenn well. I can't continue to go forward at this time.
