3
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
September 25, 2000
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
School Committee: (continued)
Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to table the entire issue until the
next scheduled Board Meeting.
Motion seconded by Selectman Marsters.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
Public Comment:
Representative Caffyn made note of several legislative issues. An
informational folder will be left in the Selectmen's Office for additional
review.
Mashpee resident, George Benway made note of a recent article that
appeared in the Mashpee Enterprise relative to the facilitator discussion
that occurred at the last Selectmen's Meeting.
Mr. Benway indicated that the Tribal Council is represented in
Washington by two law firms in their petition before BIA. He urged the
Selectmen to support the $50,000 Town Meeting article proposed for legal
expenses relative to this matter.
In addition, Mr. Benway recommended the Board request under the
Freedom of Information Act, the petition article as filed before the BIA.
In particular, the geographic representation of ancestral lands should be
reviewed. Mr. Benway noted that the lands may encompass Cotuit,
Santuit, and parts of Forestdale, Otis, Falmouth and Waquoit.
