f <br /> 1 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> February 24, 1999 <br /> Present: Selectman Marsters, Selectman Taylor, <br /> Selectman Caffyn, Selectman Leveille <br /> Town Administrator Robert Whritenour <br /> Absent: Selectman Frye <br /> Meeting Called to Order by Chairman Marsters at 7:00 p.m. <br /> Town Hall, Conference Room#1. <br /> FY 2000 BUDGET MEETING: <br /> The Board of Selectmen met in joint convention with the Finance <br /> Committee and School Committee for the purpose of reviewing the <br /> annual budget of the School Department for fiscal year 2000. Diane <br /> Rommelmeyer,the Town Accountant was also in attendance. <br /> Mr. Whritenour reviewed the analysis of available revenues. Information <br /> regarding Chapter 70 Aid and State Resolution Aid was distributed. The <br /> Town of Mashpee will be receiving less Chapter 70 Aid, $38,158 less and <br /> approximately$400,000 less in Resolution Aid according to cherry sheet <br /> estimates. <br /> Mr. Whritenour recommended the School Department initiate dialogue <br /> with the Department of Education to better track the funding formula and <br /> attempt to obtain additional funding for the Town of Mashpee. The news <br /> is failing the school system in devastating proportions related <br /> Mr. Whritenour in concern. <br /> Discussion followed with respect to projected school enrollment. Mrs. <br /> Cook, Chairman of the School Committee indicated that she received an <br /> update on April 1, 1998 relative to actual school enrollment figures. <br /> Presently, there are 2136 students in pre-school through grade 12. <br /> According to the School District Profile, Mashpee is spending $4,505 per <br /> student in regular education, and approximately $8,000 per student in <br /> special education. There are 15.4%of students with special education <br /> plans in the Mashpee school system at this time. <br />
