1 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> June 1, 1999 <br /> Present: Selectman Marsters, Selectman Levedle, <br /> Selectman Taylor, Selectman Cahalane <br /> Town Administrator Robert Whritenour <br /> Assistant Town Administrator <br /> Meeting Called to Order by Chairman Marsters at 9:07 a.m. <br /> Town Hall, Conference Room#1. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Joint Meeting re: FY2000 School Budget: <br /> The Board of Selectmen held a joint meeting with members of the School <br /> Committee and Finance Committee for the purpose of reviewing the <br /> budget crisis of the School Department. <br /> In attendance: School Committee members,Theresa Cook, Kathleen <br /> Lynch, Maryanne Macdonald, Steven Paxton,Janice Mills. <br /> Finance Committee members,Nancy Goulart, Sidney Golub, Steve <br /> Cashman,Dean Arden. Sherwood Fluery the new School Superintendent <br /> and Diane Rommelmeyer,the Town Accountant was also present. <br /> It was noted that the May S, 1999 Town election defeated a$1.15 million <br /> Proposition 2-1/s override ballot question in support of school funding. <br /> Last week, several members of the Board of Selectmen met with the Town <br /> Administrator, School Superintendent and School Committee to discuss <br /> preliminary strategies to address the budget shortfall for this current fiscal <br /> year and for future fiscal years. <br /> Superintendent Fluery indicated that the FY2000 School budget is in need <br /> an additional $600,000 to avoid eliminating the full-day kindergarten <br /> program and extracurricular school activities. <br /> In an effort to assist with the School budget shortfall, Mr. Whritenour,the <br /> Town Administrator recommended the Selectmen consider the use of <br /> $500,000 from free cash which would be certified and available for <br /> appropriation at the October Town Meeting. <br />
