7
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
September 13, 1999
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Watershed Management Committee Re rt:
Dr. Brian Howes, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth Center
for Marine Science and Technology presented a progress report to the
Selectmen relative to the Nutrient Management of the Popponesset Bay
System: Quantitative Assessment of the Nitrogen Loading Tolerances of
Component Sub-Embayments.
The results of the study clearly indicate nutrient water quality degradation
in each of the upper sub-embayments(Mashpee River, Ockway and
Shoestring Bays).
The technical staff at CMAST has undertaken several correlated activities
in support of the Town's overall effort informed Dr. Howes who noted
that the study is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year.
A brief synopsis of the study findings was presented to the Selectmen in a
memorandum dated September 13, 1999. (enclosed)
Housing Authori —Plowing:
Correspondence was received from Leila Botsford,Mashpee Housing
Authority dated August 17, 1999 relative to plowing for#7 Job's Fishing
Road and#570 Old Barnstable Road.
Greg Taylor,Director of Public Works was present to review the request
of the Housing Authority for snow removal. The current Town policy is
that we do not plow any private parking lots or residential units informed
Mr. Taylor. Requests are often received from non-profit organizations,
church groups, condominium complexes and areas of housing assistance.
At this time, the Town does not provide snow removal services to the
above referenced locations.
If the Town were to assume responsibility, a hired subcontractor would
most likely provide snowplowing services after his roadway route is
completed. This would occur several hours after snow plowing operations
have begun noted Mr. Taylor.
