RESOLUTION TO INVESTIGATE STREETLIGHT SAVINGS <br /> WHEREAS the Town of wishes to minimize its total expenditures for <br /> providing streetlighting service, including the payments for use of streetlighting <br /> equipment, maintenance, repairs, and needed electricity; <br /> WHEREAS the Electric Utility Restructuring Act G.L. c. 164, section 134 A, authorizes <br /> municipalities to purchase municipal streetlights from the local distribution company, at <br /> ? the depreciated value of the streetlighting equipment; <br /> WHEREAS recent regulatory decisions provide a clear process for developing cost <br /> estimates and conducting such a purchase; <br /> WHEREAS joint examination of economic savings and joint negotiation with <br /> Commonwealth Electric will reduce the expense of such actions; <br /> AND WHEREAS such examination will be funded by the Compact and final <br /> determinations to act will be made by each town following a report and recommendations <br /> from the Compact; <br /> THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: <br /> That the Town of hereby authorizes the Cape Light Compact to <br /> investigate the economic and other benefits to the Town of purchasing its streetlights <br /> from Commonwealth Electric; to negotiate with Commonwealth Electric related to such <br /> economic and other benefits; and to represent the Town on this issue before the <br /> Department of Telecommunications and Energy to the extent needed. The Compact may <br /> not finally commit the Town to purchase any streetlighting equipment without <br /> subsequent and explicit approval of the Town. <br />
