Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes 3 <br /> March 5, 1998 <br /> JOINT MEETING RE: FY_99 SCHOQL BUDGET: <br /> Discussion followed with regards to the number of students presently <br /> attending Mashpee schools. As of October 1, 1998, 1976 students were <br /> enrolled. The figure has increased to 1984 students as of February 28, 1998. <br /> The enrollment figure does not reflect Cape Cod Technical School students. <br /> The School Department has projected that 2067 students will attend <br /> Mashpee public schools this fall. The figure is exclusive of Falmouth and the <br /> Cape Cod Technical School systems. <br /> Selectman Costa indicated that the majority of the Board of Selectmen are <br /> supportive of increased educational funding if the Governor's proposal prevails. <br /> The School Committee agreed to amend their fiscal year 1999 budget to <br /> conform to the recommendations of the Selectmen and Finance Committee. <br /> Programs may have to be eliminated to maintain the budget request. <br /> It was noted that the School Department is presently in deficit as a result of <br /> mandated Special Education requirements. it is necessary to appropriate <br /> $400,000 to the Special Education budget, and $450,000 to teacher salaries <br /> as a result of contractual obligations. <br /> An additional budget meeting will be scheduled on Monday,March 23, 1998 <br /> to re-visit the School budget in joint session. <br /> Adjournment: <br /> Motion made by Selectman Caffyu to adjourn at 8:30 p.m. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Marsters. <br /> yOT) : Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Kathleen M.
