Board of Selectmen
Minutes 6
March 23, 1998
OLD BUSINESS
Warrant Review:_
Fire Chief, George Baker was present to recommend the Board place
an article on the Town Meeting warrant to fund the installation of a vehicle
emissions exhaust system for the Town's Fire and Rescue Station. The
sum of$31,000 is proposed for the 1999 Special Town Meeting warrant.
Chief Baker indicated that the system can be re-used during the planning for the
future Fire Station renovation.
It is the consensus of the Board to support the article request. The Finance
Committee is expected to review the request and return with a recommendation.
Correspondence from Selectman CafF
Selectman Caffyn submitted communication to the Board in a memo dated
March 20, 1998 relative to reconsideration of Wading Place Road issue.
Ken Bates and Mike Reardon, members of the Popponesset Beach
Association Board of Directors were present to discuss the issue of on-street
parking with members of the Board of Selectmen.
Mr. Bates indicated that the Board of Directors are very pleased with the
Selectmen's decision to approve the change to Town Traffic Rules, and
signage for Wading Place Road.
Mr. Bates indicated that on-street parking is the largest complaint received
as a result of narrow roads which are difficult to travel. It was noted that the
Chief of Police and Director of Public Works have identified signage to be
in compliance with State requirements.
