Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes 2 <br /> May 18, 1998 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Bill Fisher-Plume Updak. <br /> William Fisher of Woodard& Curran,Environmental Services was <br /> present to update the Board of Selectmen and interested public on the <br /> CS-10, SD-5,Eastern Briarwood,FS-I and J. Braden Thompson plumes. <br /> Mr. Fisher was retained by the Town in 1996 to provide consulting services <br /> relative to the evaluation of impacts of the MMR Remediation Project <br /> and to provide consultation on area related contamination issues. <br /> CS-10: <br /> Chemical Spill 10 Plume: 18,000 feet, approximately 3.5 miles long. <br /> Primary contaminants: solvents and degreasers. <br /> The area of high contaminant levels are close to Ashumet Pond. <br /> Recommendation to fast track remedial approach along Sandwich Road, <br /> extraction, treatment and recirculation. <br /> SD-5: <br /> Storm Drain 5 Plume: 6,000 feet. <br /> Primary contaminants: solvents, degreasers, fuel constituents. <br /> Recommendation to install a system that is compatible with the neighborhood, <br /> and to expedite clean-up in less than 10 years. <br /> Risk of human health for use of groundwater. <br /> Eastexrs_Briarwood Plume: <br /> 2500 feet. Primary contaminants: solvents and fuel compounds. <br /> Risk of human health for use of groundwater. <br /> FS-1: <br /> Fuel Spill 1 Plume: 8,000 feet. <br /> Primary contaminants: fuel compounds, 5 million gallons of AVGAS <br /> reportedly dumped on site. <br /> Risk of human health for use of groundwater, restricted use of agricultural lands. <br /> Ecological impacts yet to be quantified. <br />
