Board of Selectmen
Minutes 7
July 6, 1998
I
NEW BUSINESS:
Memoran um from Selectman Ca _fie:„PLQwsed Closing of Ashumet R
Selectman Caffyn submitted correspondence to the Board in a memo dated
July 1, 1998 with respect to the delay of the closing of Ashumet Road by
the Falmouth Board of Selectmen.
Selectman Caffyn suggested the Board meet with Falmouth officials to discuss
this concern on Thursday, July 16, 1998. The meeting will give us an opportunity
to understand the full ramification of the fair traffic, and the problems
surrounding the overall area of Route 151 informed Selectman Caffyn.
A memo from the Town Planner relative to Back Road was presented to the
Board by Selectman Caffyn who noted that the completion of Back Road would
tie into Sandwich Road where there is signalization. The road, if completed
would be a safer method of travel, and would provide access to boats and ,
trailers entering the beach area explained Selectman Caffyn.
Dr. McDonald, the owner of the Otis Trailer Park indicated that the military
base requested permission from the Town to open and maintain Back Road
in 1958. It was noted that military personnel also utilize the pond. The
matter was taken under advisement.
Mr. Lewis suggested the Board review the utility pole located on the corner
of Currier Road and Ashumet Road. The pole, located in the southwest
corner of the intersection poses a problem for boat trailers making the turn.
Mr. Oliver recommended that the grass be mowed in the area of the intersection
during the interim. He also suggested that the stored equipment be moved to
help ease the present problem. Mr. Connolly also voiced concern, and suggested
the Board consider the road direction for one way traffic only.
It is the consensus of the Board to meet with the Falmouth Board of Selectmen.
Notice will be posted at Town Hall to inform the public. Selectman Caffyn
suggested that a subcommittee be developed to work with the issues in a two
town effort.
