i <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes 2 <br /> September 14,1998 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND LIE GSS. <br /> Edward O'Connor-Interested in Serving as Town's Representative to the <br /> Cape Cod Commission <br /> Edward O'Connor was present to discuss his interest to serve as Mashpee's <br /> representative to the Cape Cod Commission with members of the Board of <br /> Selectmen. <br /> Mr. O'Connor indicated that he will review the aspects of the position with <br /> former commission member, George Benway. The Board requested that the <br /> Cape Cod Commission representative update the Selectmen on a quarterly <br /> basis. *Agenda topic, September 28, 1998. <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE;. <br /> Correspondence was received from the Department of the Army,New <br /> England District, Corps of Engineers, dated September 14, 1998 and Air Force <br /> for Environmental Excellence,Massachusetts Military Reservation dated <br /> September 4, 1998 relative to the Draft Easement Form 2970 to acquire <br /> 27.22 acres, known as the Quashnet cranberry bog, for a two year period. <br /> The 1997 cranberry crop was kept off the market after components of jet fuel <br /> were found in the Mashpee bog. <br /> The Negative(Restrictive)Easement will be used to obligate funds for the <br /> cranberry bog contamination. The deadline for approval is September 30, 1998. <br /> The information will be forwarded to Town Counsel for review and clarification. <br /> *Agenda topic, September 28, 1998. <br /> Request to Repair Back Road: <br /> Selectman Caffyn indicated that the MMR, AFC intends to close Hooppole <br /> Road for the installation of monitoring wells. She requested the Board obtain <br /> legal opinion from Town Counsel relative to the closure of a public road without <br /> prior consent from the Board of Selectmen. The military should consider the <br /> repair of Back Road suggested Selectman Caffyn. Town Counsel, Kopelman and <br /> Paige, and Greg Taylor, Director of Public Works will be consulted with respect <br /> to this regard. <br />
