i Board of Selectmen Minutes 2 September 14,1998 APPOINTMENTS AND LIE GSS. Edward O'Connor-Interested in Serving as Town's Representative to the Cape Cod Commission Edward O'Connor was present to discuss his interest to serve as Mashpee's representative to the Cape Cod Commission with members of the Board of Selectmen. Mr. O'Connor indicated that he will review the aspects of the position with former commission member, George Benway. The Board requested that the Cape Cod Commission representative update the Selectmen on a quarterly basis. *Agenda topic, September 28, 1998. COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE;. Correspondence was received from the Department of the Army,New England District, Corps of Engineers, dated September 14, 1998 and Air Force for Environmental Excellence,Massachusetts Military Reservation dated September 4, 1998 relative to the Draft Easement Form 2970 to acquire 27.22 acres, known as the Quashnet cranberry bog, for a two year period. The 1997 cranberry crop was kept off the market after components of jet fuel were found in the Mashpee bog. The Negative(Restrictive)Easement will be used to obligate funds for the cranberry bog contamination. The deadline for approval is September 30, 1998. The information will be forwarded to Town Counsel for review and clarification. *Agenda topic, September 28, 1998. Request to Repair Back Road: Selectman Caffyn indicated that the MMR, AFC intends to close Hooppole Road for the installation of monitoring wells. She requested the Board obtain legal opinion from Town Counsel relative to the closure of a public road without prior consent from the Board of Selectmen. The military should consider the repair of Back Road suggested Selectman Caffyn. Town Counsel, Kopelman and Paige, and Greg Taylor, Director of Public Works will be consulted with respect to this regard.
