41
TOWN OF MASHPEE
DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE MEETING
March 11, 1998
The Design Review Committee met at 6: 30 p.m. on Wednesday,
March 11, 1998 at the Lower Level of Mashpee Town Hall.
Committee Members Present: William Hauck, Ex Officio;
Ed Govoni, Chairman; Mary LeBlanc; Thomas F. O'Hara.
Absent: Patrick Coffey
1. Michael H. Grotzke (Mashpe_e _Marketplace Nominee Trust)
439 Nathan Ellis Highway
A preliminary site plan showed a building consisting of a
basement with one floor and seven units. The applicant said
they will be seeking variances on the sides in the future.
Building materials have not yet been finalized, but Cape Cod
styling will be used. It was noted the building will be
sprinkled. 74 parking spaces are planned. The location of
the dumpsters was discussed.
It was requested that the proposed bike path be shown on
future plans. It was agreed brick paving would be an asset,
however brick should not be used on the building.
Landscaping suggestions included moving trees closer to the
street to create a tree canopy. A double row of trees might
be used in order to give the pedestrian more protection. The
use of an occasional tree along the sides was suggested. Pin
oaks and scrub oaks will be incorporated to enhance whatever
is there. Grading lines will be shown on future landscaping
plans. No major problems were expressed regarding the
preliminary plan.
2 . Fain Gildeat_ 33 Great Neck Road - Sign Application
Ms. Gildea was in attendance in followup to the last Design
Review meeting during which the signs were discussed. She
said they would rather have two signs, one at each drive-
way rather than what was suggested. They will be renting
upstairs and would like to list each occupant' s name on the
signs.
The consensus was there is too much sighage for a small lot.
Esthetically it would be better to have one sign centered and
set back 5 ft. from the property line. "Entrance" signs are
acceptable. It was suggested Greg Taylor be consulted
regarding the location of the bike path. Photos, as requested
previously, would be helpful. Landscaping and lighting plans
need to be presented.
