TOWN OF MASHPEE
DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE MEETING
July 14, 1999
The Design Review Committee met at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 1999 in
Meeting Room #3 at the Lower Level of Mashpee Town Hall.
Committee Members Present: William Hauck, Ex Officio; Ed Govoni, Chairman;
Thomas F. O'Hara; Mary LeBlanc; Jim Dorgan.
1. Cape Cod Heathcare/Mashpee Health Center, Mashpee Industrial Park
An updated set of plans were presented by Atty. Butler showing a number of
changes--one driveway was removed, the dumpster was relocated, and signage
questions were addressed. There will be only one driveway on Industrial Drive.
Different textures and awnings, similar to Falmouth Hospital's construction, were
displayed.
The Planning Board recently requested a letter from Design Review stating that
certain items will be resolved.
Landscaping is a prime concern. It will be stated on the landscaping plan there is a
100 ft. buffer. The matter of natural vegetation will be re-visited. The consensus
was that certain areas should not be left natural. The corner area should have
specific conditions.
The construction of the swale and placement of plants needs to be addressed on
the landscaping plan. It was suggested the area be viewed for additional feedback.
The Planning Board is open to suggestions in terms of species, it was mentioned.
Discussion ensued regarding species and placement. Suggestions included
evergreens, red maples, cedars, spruces, American hollies (if irrigated), rosa
rugosa, pin oaks, bear berries, native grasses, beach plum, etc. Underscoring will
be utilized for screening. There will be screening of parked cars, and shading will be
provided in the parking lots.
Once the special permit is approved, the applicant will schedule a meeting to
present a supplemental landscaping plan.
Signage: A signage plan is needed. A wooden sign is proposed for the building, in
block style, black or blue on white with gold lettering. The free-standing sign has to
be at least 5 ft.,back from the property line and will not interfere with the natural
topography; it should not cause any traffic problems.
