SIDNEY HEIMBERG
P.O. Box 1785
Mashpee, MA 02649
(508)477-1785 September 16,2004
TO: Mashpee Board of Selectmen:
RE: Dama a to Stu is Memorial at the Rotary on Stur 's Lane
A very unfortunate incident has just occurred on Wednesday causing damage to the
Sturgis Memorial in the circle at the end of Sturgis Lane. This would seem to be adding
insult to injury to all previous claims filed against Harwich Concrete Block. Rather than
belaboring that, please see my letter enclosed to The Zoning Board of Appeals dated
9/15/04,which is self-explanatory.
On Wednesday morning, September 15, 2004 at approximately 6:40 a.m., a tractor-trailer
carrying a load of paving stones to Harwich Concrete Block, and using Sturgis Lane as a
turn-around, knocked down part of a cluster of evergreens around the maple tree which
forms a memorial centerpiece in honor of a departed member of the Sturgis family. The
driver of the truck attempted to leave the scene with no intent to report the damage, but
was followed by our neighbor, Steven Cadrin, to the Harwich Concrete Block facility on
Echo and Main Streets. The driver claimed that he didn'c,think he had caused much
damage. A police report has been filed.
Would you kindly look into the matter and have the town seek reimbursement from the
driver's insurance company, and advise me that the damage to this memorial will be
restored.
Thank you for your kind cooperation and anticipated courtesy.
Very truly yours,
Sidney Heimberg
Enc/l
Cc: Zoning Board of Appeals
Building Department
Mark Boudreau, Esq.
Department of Public Works
