South Cape Village continued
Tom O'Hara noted that current is 40 square feet; and this one is same with nicer materials. Tom
O'Hara pointed out that wings on signs are illegal. Tom suggested they separate the fence from the
sign. Melinda said they are putting vegetation around the sign. Not changing the lighting or
landscaping, but they might do some grasses around the meter and post that houses irrigation. The
Committee pointed out that the height is 15 feet so they could raise it and keep out of vegetation
area. Melinda agreed.
Conclusion: Stamped approved with condition that fence will be separated from the sign.
Before exiting the meeting, Mike Caggiano asked the Design Review Committee if he could address
them informally on a matter.
Design Review Committee unanimously voted in favor of adding the requested discussion to
the agenda.
Added discussion...Mike Caggiano said he was asking informally whether a 2'X10' sign would be
allowed at the Mad Platter site. Mr. Caggiano said he already spoke with Jdhn Renz of Mashpee
Commons. Tom O'Hara explained that if Mad Platter wants to add, then he would have to move sign
that is there. Tom O'Hara also pointed out thattape-on signage that is there is illegal. Tom explained
the signage by-law and signage allowances. Tom also stated that new signage by-law is being
worked on.
Discussion Items on Agenda
Route 130 Stores
Tom O'Hara said they are doing the bike path on Route 130 so he wanted to make sure that Rich
Stevens was aware that it had been agreed that a sidewalk was to be installed on Ashumet Road.
T-om-said-with-the-bike-path-being-done-this-would-be-a-good-time-for-the-owners to-do-the-sidewalk.
Rich Stevens said he will follow-up on this.
Sign Violations
Bob Nelson noted the by-law says there is to be one free-standing sign at each lot, so while 2 signs at
South Cape Village is needed, Bob is not certain it is legal. Tom O'Hara said maybe it was a Special
Permit since both South Cape and Mashpee Commons have one at each entrance. Bob said ladder
signs should be composed of certain size everything on ladder would be identical in size. Tom said
but then it becomes difficult to read. Also, we really can't tell landlord what he can do.
Tom O'Hara addressed Mike Richardson informing him that there was a permit for Nicoletta's Way
and 426 Main Street. Tom said they are 2 separate lots. Tom stated that Mr. Maffei brought in a
small, stamped plan but we can't find a set of stamped plans for the Main Street lot. Tom called
Walter and he can't remember stamped plans; and no one can remember approving this. In the plan
Mr. Maffei has it shows the stone wall and also shows the sign location. But the application that
came with the landscape plan addresses 28 Nicoletta's Way. The application and the plan are both
dated the same, but the plan does not show Nicoletta's Way so they are not working together—there
is no application for that landscape plan on Main Street but it is stamped and signed approved the
same day.
2
