Personnel Board's <br /> • Minutes of June 7, 1982 Page 2 <br /> Vacation Buy-Back Request <br /> The request of Albert Gonsalves to have the town buy-back eleven vacation days was <br /> approved by the Personnel Board. The proper paperwork will be sent to the Town <br /> Accountant. <br /> Fire Chief Applications <br /> The applications of nine candidates for the position of Fire Chief were made <br /> available to the Board for review. Bob Sullivan suggested that each Board member <br /> come in during the week for a thorough review of the applications. The secretary <br /> informed the Board that the Executive Secretary/Board of Selectmen have sent away <br /> for an examination in order to test the Fire Chief finalists. Bob Sullivan asked <br /> that the Board of Selectmen be informed that the feeling of the Personnel Board is <br /> that the test should not weigh as much as the oral interviews in making a decision <br /> for the best qualified candidate. Also, the secretary informed the Board that Cal <br /> Hitchcock, former chief of Otis,and Chief Mills were-asked to attend the interviews <br /> which have been scheduled for June 14 and June 21. <br /> Acting Foreman <br /> A memo dated June 4 advising the Personnel Board that Oliver Pocknett will act as <br /> temporary foreman during the absence of Burley Green was read into the minutes. <br /> Temporary Summer Laborer <br /> A memo' dated June 3 informing the Personnel Board that Robert Lopez and Clyde Maddox <br /> will start working for the Highway Department as temporary summer laborers effective <br /> June 7 was received and read. Bob Sullivan said that the new Superintendent of <br /> Streets, when hired, should be made aware that the-Personnel Board should be contacted <br /> in advance of hiring any new personnel. <br /> Superintendent of Streets-' <br /> Job Description <br /> Upon review of the newly revised job description of the Superintendent of Streets, <br /> Bob Sullivan requested that an addition be made to 49 stating that "hiring of new <br /> personnel shall be in conjunction with the Personnel Board". <br /> In response to the Personnel Board's.inquiry as to why the Selectmen's office was <br /> preparing the job description on the -Superintendent of Streets position, the Executive <br /> Secretaryexplained in a. memo dated May 25..that there were two job descriptions on <br /> �P Y J <br /> file and that the Board of Selectmen requested the incumbent Superintendent of Streets <br /> and the town's consulting engineer to make recommendations. <br /> Charter Commission <br /> A request from David Terry, Chairman .of the Charter Commission, for a Board Secretary <br /> was made. They would like someone to start as of June 15. The Board asked the secre- <br /> tary to post the opening. "A memo from the Selectmen's office dated June 6 states that <br /> Barbara Horton is interested in the position. <br /> .Absence of Richard Ma..rtini, <br /> A copy of a doctors certificate stating.that Richard Martini is unable to work until <br /> further notice was received. . The Board requested that the secretary find out why. <br /> • Substitute Secretary for Selectmen's Office <br /> The Board was advised that 'Florence Lucas has been hired to replace Kathleen Donnelly <br /> in the Selectmen's office during the period of June 3- through June 17. <br />
