Minutes of Personnel Board
• Meeting of April 5, 1982 Page 2
Hiring of Life ards and Gate Attendants
Wendy Rubin met with the Personnel Board to present her recommendations of Head
Lifeguard, Lifeguards and Gate Attendants. The recommendations were: Gail
Schlueter, Head Lifeguard, Thomas Helekewicz, Lifeguard assisting Head Lifeguard
Mary Ryan, Heather Urquhart, Karen Hickey, Laird Stiefvater, Myles Stiefvater and
Kathryn Dunn as Lifeguards. Karen Kullen and Philip Johnson were recommended for
the,'daate Attendants position. A request was made by Wendy to send out an orienta-
tion letter and medical form upon the Selectmen's appointment of the lifeguards.
Union Meeti.nq
At the request of Grace Maddox, a meeting was set up with the Personnel Board to
meet with Marty Joyce of the Union, Joe Murphy and Bob DeLory at 7:45 p.m. in order
to discuss time taken by Grace during the week ending March 5.
The meeting was cancelled as Grace did not attend. The secretary received a phone
call at 9:30 p.m. from Grace Maddox informing her that she forgot about the meeting
and requested that another meeting be scheduled. A meeting was set up for 7:45 p.m.
on Monday, April 12.
Fire Chief
Joe Murphy informed the Personnel Board that the Fire Chief resigned at the Select-
men's meeting this afternoon. The Chief's resignation will be effective as of
April 9. The Personnel Board was also informed that the Selectmen wished to conduct
the interviews for the hiring of a new Fire Chief. The secretary was asked to give
the Exec
utive Secretary all the applications in the file for the Fire Chief+s position.
Assistant To
wn Accountant
The posting for the Assistant Town Accountant was done. No Union employee applied for
the position. An application was received from Barbara Russell who is currently em-
ployed in the Town Accountant's office. The Personnel Board was informed by the Execu-
tive Secretary that the Selectmen will be making a decision as to advertise outside for
the position.
Town Physician
The Personnel Board was informed by the Executive Secretary that the Selectmen are
not happy with the current town physician, Dr. Lewis, and that they are in the process
of looking for another physician. Evidentally, an employee who had a physical with
Dr. Lewis had a work related injury prior to employment with the Town of Mashpee.
Discussion on Firefighters Physicals
Chief Gould requested the secretary to ask the Personnel Board if employees would be
• paid for their time spent taking a physical if it falls on their day off. The
secretary was asked to re-schedule the appointments so that the appointments would
fall on days with the men are scheduled to work. The town could, technically, be
responsible to pay an employee for their time who they schedule for a work physical.
