PERSONNEL BOARD MINUTES <br /> MEETING OF JUNE 20 , 1988 PAGE 2 <br /> Interviews for Part-Time Librarian Custodian , cont . <br /> experience and maturity ; At the conclusion of the interview process , the <br /> Board narrowed down the selection process to conduct background checks on <br /> all three candidates . <br /> Candidate for Personnel Board <br /> The Board met with Ed Baker , a Mashpee resident , who is interested in serv- <br /> ing on the Personnel Board . He told the Board that he was retirinq from <br /> Raytheon in September after thirty-two years . He has been in management <br /> where he has been a manager of air traffic control . He said that he has <br /> been evaluating people for several years . He does not want an 8 to 5 job <br /> but he wants to do something that he is familiar with and he wants to make <br /> a contribution to the town . He said that he has been coming to Mashpee <br /> for thirty years and fishing . He has always loved the town . <br /> After the Board members outlined some of their responsibilities with Ed , <br /> Manny asked if he felt he would like to come aboard? Ed replied that it <br /> sounds interesting . Manny asked if he dealt with hiring and firing person- <br /> nel? Ed replied that in the thirty-one years he worked , he hired , fired <br /> and evaluated anywhere from 800 to 1 , 000 people . <br /> Ed was asked if Monday meetings were any problem. Ed replied just now <br /> until September 1 . The Personnel Board agreed to recommend Ed Baker to the <br /> Board of Selectmen for appointment . <br /> Chief Ridgeway re : Interview Process for New Firefighters <br /> Chief Ridgeway met with the Board to update them on the hiring process and <br /> the interviewing process for new firefighters . He said that applications <br /> closed on the 10th of June : They have received fifty-six applications for <br /> four positions . He said that there is a small problem being that EMT cer- <br /> tification is needed . The union contract comes into play . In order to be <br /> hired as an EMT,candidate must be both Mass EMT and National EMT certified . <br /> Chief Ridgeway went on to say that after reviewing the fifty-six applica- <br /> tions , only seven applicants meet the requirements . Twenty to twenty-four <br /> meet the Mass . EMT certification . <br /> Chief Ridgeway said that he has approached the President of the Union and <br /> that he feels confident that they will do an addendum change to the con- <br /> tract . . The reason the language was negotiated was for job protection . <br /> Once that is done , there will be twenty to thirty qualified applicants _ <br /> The hiring process will include agility and swimming tests . with regard to <br /> the written test , the Chief said that he plans to have it at Town Hall with <br /> no fire service personnel involved . He said that he prefers to keep the <br /> written part of it with personnel. Seventy percent must be achieved as a <br /> passing score . The Saturday after the written test which is scheduled for <br /> July 16 , there will be the physical agility and swimming test . The swim- <br /> ming test is pass-fail . Chief Ridgeway reviewed the parts of the agility <br /> test with the Board . He said that he has written the job description for <br /> Firefighter and Lieutenant positions . <br />
