ASHPEE PLANNING BOARD MINUTES : July 1 , 1985
MEMBERS PRESENT : Richard Dubin, Harold Collins , Richardson Jonas
ME BERS ABSENT : Michele Stone
TIME: 4:00 PM
Mr. Dubin opened the public hearing on the proposed amendment to
the Zoning By-Laws to add Subsection 6.3 .G .10. He read the notice
as advertised in the newspaper (see attached) .
Mr. Dubin: Mr. Young, you're the proponant . Can you summarize the
article as opposed to the last one please .
Mr. Young: Yes . The difference between this article and the last
one .is the is the Town Planner who wrote both of them. In the
previous article there is also contingency for baking and I think
one other type of processing included . This one -specifically per-
tains to coffee processing and packaging. That is the difference
between this and the other article .
Mr. Dubin: Just coffee? No baking, etc .?
Mr. Young: Right , or candy making,
Mr. Dubin: What about the issue that came up at the last meeting
about odor?
Mr. Young: There is no odor.
Mr, Dubin: That 's what I thought the last time . Did that point
get across at the town meeting?
Mr. Young: Yes . I think someone raised the point would there be
any odor at all and I being an honest person, said if you were to
walk by and the door was open as you was walking by and I stressed
the point walking and not driving by, that you would get a wiff of
a coffee aroma. I think it 's essentially contained within the
building.
Mr. Dubin: So in the normal sense of the word, no odor.
Mr. Young: Right . No odor whatsoever.
Mr. Dubin: OK.
Mr. Young: Also a couple of other things I heard around town and
I addressed the people who had made these allegations . ' Number one ,
there 's an allegation that there is a large water useage factor.
In fact the plant uses 5 gallons per hour and that water is totally
absorbed in the coffee beans . There is no residual water whatsoever.
So point number 2 . Point number 3 was someone said there would be
a lot of smoke . The operation is totally smokeless . I would go
on record saying that and I 've written to those individuals who
