I — Leadership
Leadership plays a critical role, both in the development of a prevention and intervention bullying plan and
the imp ems entation of that plan. Leaders have a primary role in teaching students to be civil to one another and
I
romoting understanding of and respect for diversity and difference.
Leaders in the district include the Superintendent, the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment,
the Pri cipa s,'the Assistant Principals, and Guidance and School Adjustment Counselors. Mashpee school leaders
stay up-to-date with current research. They take their role and responsibilities seriously and involve all faculty and
staff regarding the prevention of bullying and the implementation of the plan.
The plan will be developed with input from teachers, school staff, professional support personnel, school
Volunteers, administrators, community representatives, local law enforcement agencies, students, and parents and
guardians. The community is invited to a meeting on October 19, 2010 from 6:30-7:30 for input and to ask
questions. During the development of the Plan, updates will be posted to the district's website for public comment
as well.
This plan is Mashpee's blueprint for enhancing the capacity to prevent and respond to bullying issues within
our schools. A review of current policies and procedures took place, and the following is a comprehensive list of
what each school offers to students to prevent bullying:
KCC School Quashnet School Mashpee Middle School Mashpee High School
Grades PreK-2 Grades 3-6 Grades 7-8 Grades 9-12
Second Step Violence Second Step Violence PBIS (Positive Behavior I Advisor/Advisee- bullying
Prevention Program Prevention Program Intervention System)— topics are covered
PBIS (Positive Behavior Assemblies Grade Level Assemblies
Intervention S stem)
Official Referral Form(s) Office Referral Form(s) Official Referral Form(s) Official Referral Form(s)
Guidance Counselors— Guidance Counselors— Guidance Counselors--
Individual and Group Individual and Group Individual and Group
School Adjustment School Adjustment School Adjustment School Adjustment
Counselor Counselor Counselor Counselors
Mindful Education—
Social/Emotional Learning
and Inner Resiliency
Training—students
No Name Calling Week No Name Calling Week No Name Calling Week No Name Calling Week
Power of One Assembly
Bullying Behavior Bullying Behavior Bullying Behavior Bullying Behavior
Surveys: Faculty, and Surveys: Students, Faculty, Surveys: Students, Faculty, Surveys: Students, Faculty,
Parents/Guardians and Parents/Guardians and Parents/Guardians and Parents/Guardians
Lee Burwell—Guiding Lee Burwell —Guiding Lee Burwell —Guiding Lee Burwell— Guiding
Good Choices Parent Good Choices Parent Good Choices Parent Good Choices Parent
Workshop—District Wide Workshop— District Wide Workshop—District Wide Workshop—District Wide
Offering Offering Offering Offering
3
