QUASHNET VALLEY SCHOOL COUNCIL <br /> MONDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1999 <br /> Members in attendance: Bob Tippo, ..Robin Geggatt, Sharon <br /> Balzarini, Sunny Merritt, Reid Riberdy, Vicki Kelly <br /> 1) Tim Souza and Maura Manning- no longer involved with -school <br /> council . <br /> Need one more teacher. <br /> 2) PTO meeting - a lot of people attended Brian Gillie night . <br /> Three new teachers : Terrill-gr. 2 (1-year) ; Dean-gr. 1 (1- <br /> year) ; Cannon-gr. 6; Cheryl Maclntire . <br /> (T-eachers have 1 year off; K-eliminated this year - 22 in <br /> each class . <br /> Grade 4 River low numbers <br /> 1 year. grant - reduce class size in one school only - <br /> would have liked to'. have spanned that out over 3. <br /> schools . <br /> Talked 'about SPED issues and teachersinclusion. <br /> 3) System goals - discussed memo 'of October 7 from Sherwood <br /> Fluery - and the highlights of that memo . <br /> Common areas discussed <br /> 4) * looking into getting walkie talkies - <br /> Maintain safety - domestic problems - abductions can <br /> happen. <br /> * 100, 000 request to put a -computer in each classroom has <br /> been proposed. <br /> * School budget - $12 . 9 would be okay for the budget . <br /> * Class size and space - a problem now. <br /> Teachers are on carts and in audio-visual rooms <br /> Added 3 SPED offices in shop room <br /> Not ideal conditions for classrooms or sped. <br /> * ,SPED is always a problem and concern. <br /> 504 plan for children with physical/medical problems - <br /> 6 as of this time in Valley School . Not a SPED problem <br /> but medical . <br /> * Professional Development - 900 hours a year of teaching <br /> time is required by law - we are okay. Professional <br /> development days of a possibility. <br /> } <br /> 5) Other - Ockway Chapel - Built 1831 - one room school house <br /> in cemetery owned by the town_. , In very bad shape - has not <br /> been used since 1900 - <br /> Meeting House - 1831 - and school house for town and <br /> Wampanoaq. <br />
