Grade 1-3 Remedial Reading Teacher: Early and intensive intervention
is needed in Gradesl-3 if children are having reading difficulty. MCAS reading is
now in Grade 3 and students needing support must be serviced if they are still
non-readers.
Grade 4-6: After School Remedial Language Arts and Math Tutors.
Students who do not reach proficient or advanced levels in the Language Arts
portion of the MCAS must be given remedial intervention services.
.5 Speech Teacher Position: Alyce Shadan suggested position could be
called Speech/Language Teacher to better clarify position. Only two
speech/language teachers service the entire system at present. A third person is
hired on an hourly basis when necessary.
Three .5 Kindergarten Assistants: Because of age, children cannot do
things independently. Basic and academic needs must be met along with con-
sistency in the classroom. This would also assist the many developmental needs
and provide early intervention.
Assistant Principal: Assistance is needed on many levels. Elementary
schools with 420 plus students have an Assistant Principal to serve students and
staff.
Kathleen Penny moved to approve the FY2001 staffing budget proposal. Dorene
Goldstein seconded the motion.
Unanimous
There will be a School Committee meeting on December 1, 1999 at Quashnet
Schools with the councils from Kenneth C.
