the retirement of Diane Kingsley. (Note: Mrs. Sweeney is shared with KCC)
Mr. Bedard was hired to teach grade 3----a seventh section was needed.
Ms. Martin has taken Mr. Bedard's grade 3 teacher position as a long-term substitute the
result of Mr. Bedard's extended health-related absence. Note: Mr. Bedard will be a
substitute teacher at Quashnet for the balance of this school year.
5. Review SY10-11 School Improvement Plan Goal"10 minutes)
Academic Achievement Goal—ELA; Academic Achievement Goal—Mathematics
School Culture Goal—Safe and Respectful Learning Environment; Student Wellness Goal
■ We briefly reviewed the District's Strategic Plan--focusing on the student achievement goal.
■ We reviewed the SY 10-11 Quashnet School Improvement Plan(SIP)--focusing primarily on our
student achievement goals.
■ We did not meet our SY10-11 SIP student achievement goals. Our measurement of progress as
stated in our SIP is that 90% percent of all students who participated in the 2011 MCAS would
achieve a score higher than that which they earned on their 2010 MCAS (both for ELA and
Mathematics). In both subject areas we fell well below this target.
6. Overview of 2011 MCAS student perform ane"15 minutes)
■ This topic was discussed in conjunction with our review of the current Quashnet SIP.
■ We reviewed specific performance data and discussed the testing process and the test itself.
■ We know that our teachers and students are working hard and that our performance on the 2011
MCAS is disappointing but not the only measure of our students' learning and their academic
growth.
7. Start process of developing SY11-12 SIP Goals—(20 minutes)
Timeline—SIP (Present to School Committee at the early December meeting)
Prior to our next meeting, Council members will review the current Quashnet SIP and will be
thinking about changes we want to make for our SY11-12 School Improvement Plan. Council
members are encouraged to email suggestions to me prior to our next meeting and to be ready at our
next meeting to share recommendations.
8. Other
Additional topics/ideas upon which you'd like the 11-12 Council to focus.
(Exclusive from our SIP goals and budget-related items)
A. Uniform student dress policy/school uniforms
We briefly discussed last year's end-of-year parent survey regarding student uniforms at Quashnet. I
will share the summarized data at our next meeting. All council members present support moving
forward in the direction of developing a school uniform policy for Quashnet students. To gather
additional data, we will conduct another survey of parents—probably through our web-based School
Messenger system.
SUBMITTED BY: Patricia DeBoer ---
October 9, 2011
