The Executive Director of
Superintendents discussed the mental and emotional turmoil this is causing, parents who are
at risk for deportation, and the fear and anxiety that is spreading. It is affecting school
attendance and health care. However, the real emphasis was placed on criminals.
Lynne Barbee — She stated in 2019 Town Meeting passed a Safe Communities Act. We are
a part of a Cape wide effort to have more safe communities. Based on community policing, it
requires there be a distinction between ICE and public safety. This is based off the idea that
people will not report crimes if they think they are going to get deported. Also, she noted
abilities, not just disability, she hopes differing abilities will be discussed. For example, if you
are not in a wheelchair, it might be assumed one is fine, but mental disabilities are invisible.
Lastly, she wanted to mention she has sign-in sheets from the LCP workshops that list
everyone's name and email of who attended.
Coverage for March 18t" Meeting
Chair cannot attend the meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
MOTION:
4
