SHELLFISH COMMISSION <br /> MEETING MINUTES <br /> APRIL 8, 2025—6:OOPM <br /> MASHPEE TOWN HALL— 16 GREAT NECK ROAD NORTH <br /> WAQUOIT MEETING ROOM <br /> PRESENT: Chair,Peter Thomas, Co-Chair, Dick Cook, Shellfish Constable, Chris Avis, <br /> Bill Holmes, Dwight Pfundstein, Darryl Christensen <br /> OTHER ATTENDEES: N/A <br /> ABSENT: Jaime Pachico, Buddy Pocknett <br /> CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Thomas called the meeting to order in Open Session in <br /> the Waquoit Meeting Room at 6:OOPM. <br /> "New Board Secretary was introduced" <br /> Gina Gonsalves <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: None at this time. <br /> MINUTES: Discussion and approval of the November 12, 2024, Shellfish Commission Meeting <br /> minutes. Darryl Christensen made a motion to accept the November 12, 2024, minutes as <br /> written. Bill Holmes seconded the motion. All in favor. <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: <br /> Introduction of New Director of Natural Resources Robert Tomaino <br /> Mr. Tomaino spoke about his participation in an introductory shellfish and aquaculture class <br /> through Barnstable County which started in February 2025 and ended April 8, 2025. He stated <br /> that he gained foundational knowledge to understand the status of shellfish in the town. Mr. <br /> Tomaino said that he has been working closely with Mr. Avis and the shellfish division with Mr. <br /> Avis managing the day-to-day operations of the shellfish side of things and Mr. Tomaino's <br /> responsibility is for the oversight of the division, emphasizing accountability, consistency, and <br /> forward-thinking without micromanaging. He stated that he is committed to ensuring the <br /> committee remains active in managing and protecting town shellfish resources. Mr. Tomaino <br /> went on to say that he has an"open-door"policy, and, with Mr. Avis involved in the <br /> conversation, he encouraged members to reach out at any time, ensuring availability for support <br /> and discussions, unless there is an ethics violation. Mr. Tomaino recognizes that the board brings <br /> decades of experience and a real connection to the Town of Mashpee, and he wants to honor and <br /> respect that. He stated that he looks forward to working with the board and hearing the input <br /> from the members and making sure that the committee remains an active part of managing and <br /> protecting the town shellfish resources. <br /> Chair Thomas thanked Mr. Tomaino and praised the generosity of the Mashpee taxpayers and <br /> town leaders and highlighted the strong working relationships with the tribe. He recognized the <br /> flexibility and responsiveness of the team in addressing needs and accessing grant money for <br /> water quality and shelter projects. <br /> 1 <br />
